Even though Christian's birthday was the day before he let us do his birthday dinner and cake on Sunday July 5th. We had driven from NY to IL on July 2nd and then spent most of Jul 3rd in Wisconsin. July 4th was spent catching up after being away for a week (laundry, groceries, etc.). The birthday dinner that Christian requested was london broil cooked out on the grill, yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. The cake he requested was a Portillo's chocolate cake (I think this cake is my kids' new favorite.) I didn't mind - it meant one less thing for me to cook.
Here's the cake. He tried to protest that he was too old for candles but we told him tough luck.
He got all the candles out in one blow!
